Base Basics
by Captain Spud (Issue 6)
So, the Imperium has a workshop. So do a few other SGs. For those who haven't tried it out yet but are curious how it works, he's a quick guide to crafting, and how the Imperium will be handling it.
Crafting
Step One: Play in SG mode. You'll gather Prestige and Salvage, both of which are needed to upgrade the base.
Step Two: Make components. Go to the base and find the workroom. Click the worktable; you'll get a menu with a lot of tabs and boxes. To make things simpler, click the "hide" thingie at the bottom right and select to hide objects you can't make on the current table.
Now it's time to turn your Salvage into Components. The Basic worktable we currently have can make two kinds of Components-- Tech Material and Tech Power. There are dozens of combinations of salvage to make any one component, so look through the Material and Power tabs and figure out which combination makes the most efficient use of your available salvage. Once you decide to convert something to Salvage, click the Create button and it'll happen. Yay!
Step Three: Craft items. The Basic worktable is pretty limited in what it can do; it can make about half a dozen items that you can place around the base. Pick one that you want to build-- we'll use the Basic Holodisplay as an example. Click the >> button to expand its box and see what you'll need; the Holodisplay requires 5 material and 3 power. If you have enough of each, you'll get the Create button again, and can turn your Components into a Holodisplay. Yay!
Step Four: Place crafted items. Go to the entrance room; a window will appear with a button that reads "Add Personal Item". Click that, and you'll go into Base Edit Mode. Go to the room where you want to put your item, click the item from the tray at the bottom, and find a spot for the item in the room where its base box turns blue. Click to place it; it'll deduct the item's cost from the SG's bank account and add the item to the base.
Two notes on placement: First, if you don't like the item and want to remove it, click it while in Base Edit Mode and hit Delete. The item will disappear, and the SG will be refunded the Prestige you spent on it. However, any Components used to build it are lost. Secondly, all functional base items draw Energy and Control. Energy is fairly abundant-- our one Generator will likely do us fine for months to come. However, Control is in short supply. With our Infirmary and Workshop running, we're now in need of additional Control items before we can run anything else. To see how much Power and Control an item draws, right-click on it in your tray and hit Info. You'll see a description of the item, and its cost in Energy, Control, and Prestige. The currently provided and consumed Energy and Control for the base are at the top right of the tray. So basically, if your item draws more resources than we have available, don't place it.
And that's the basics of crafting. Cheers!
